Olives are the most widespread crop in the village of Milies and the broader area, estimated at 10.000 acres for the broader area. The farmers face the common challenges of small fields, small production, lack of vertical integration and lack of know-how and access to markets.
The Foundation, in collaboration with the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation, which brings significant experience in the support of the agricultural sector, organize a series of educational meetings for olive producers in the area. During the meetings, an expert guest briefly presents specific practical issues (quality improvement, marketing, olive diseases etc.), followed by an open discussion. The purpose of these educational meetings is to provide information to professional farmers, new farmers, agricultural processors and other professionals in this specific field. The meetings take place in villages coffeehouse, in order for the participants to fell familiar and relaxed. The project is implemented in the context of the Foundation’s initiative to revitalize Milies and the surrounding area through job creation.
